Climbing the Masaya Volcano

Santiago crater of Masaysa volcano, eastern part Santiago crater. In background San Pedro crater
Few active volcanoes in the world are as easy to access as the Masaya volcano. You can even get to the edge of the crater and smell the sulfuric smoke from inside a car.
However, we find it more challenging to enter from the little visited southern side of the crater, where furthermore you find a number of subterranean caves, left by a kind of air bubble during past eruptions.

The National park has no official entrance from the south, but Flor de Pochote has an arrangement with the park administration to bring organized groups into the area from this direction. Our groups will be attended by skilled guides from the National park. Normally an English speaking guide will be available.

From our center to the entrance of the park you have to pass 4.5 km of rural tracks. We recommend to travel this distance on horseback, which is the faster and most comfortable way. You can also walk the whole way, or we can bring you in car
